Macha Méril, born Princess Maria-Magdalena Vladimirovna Gagarina on September 3, 1940, in Rabat, Morocco, is a French actress and writer of Russian-Ukrainian nobility descent. She appeared in over 119 films between 1959 and 2007, notable for roles in films directed by Jean-Luc Godard ('Une femme mariée', 1964), Luis Buñuel ('Belle de jour', 1967), and Rainer Werner Fassbinder ('Chinese Roulette', 1976). She also acted in the Quebec series 'Lance et Compte'.

In the southern France of winter, a young drifter named Mona is discovered frozen in a ditch. Through a series of flashbacks and brief interviews with those who encountered her, we learn about her final weeks. Mona wanders alone or affiliates herself with various men and women, each projecting their desires onto her or attempting to direct her life. She squats in an abandoned house sharing hash with a man, falls for a Tunisian migrant worker named Jacques and assists him pruning grapevines, stays with a couple tending goats, meets an agronomist fighting to preserve plane trees, gets intoxicated with an elderly woman, and receives an offer to appear in pornographic films. Throughout her journey, Mona remains elusive and enigmatic, never fully attaching herself to any one person or lifestyle.
