Yuliya Burova was born in Novocherkassk, USSR, in 1962 as Lyudmila, a Party executive and devout communist who fought in World War II for Stalin's ideology. Her life took a dramatic turn during a strike at the local electromotive factory when she witnessed laborers being shot under government orders to cover up mass strikes. After this event, her daughter went missing, causing Lyudmila to question her beliefs and leading her to search for her daughter despite the city's blockade and authorities' attempts to cover up the massacre.
