Dana Elaine Owens, known professionally as Queen Latifah, was born on March 18, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey. She began her career in music, signing with Tommy Boy Records and releasing her debut album 'All Hail the Queen' in 1989. Latifah then starred in the Fox sitcom 'Living Single' from 1993 to 1998. Her album 'Black Reign', released in 1993, became the first album by a solo female rapper to receive RIAA certification and won a Grammy Award. Latifah transitioned into acting with roles in films like 'Set It Off' (1996) and earned critical acclaim for her performance as Matron 'Mama' Morton in 'Chicago' (2002). She received an Academy Award nomination for this role. Latifah also released several albums, produced the HBO film 'Bessie' (2015), and starred in various television series and films.
