Melissa Johnston, born in Canada but raised in Detroit suburbs by her Canadian business owner mother and American steel worker father, moved to Los Angeles post-secondary school to pursue acting. She attended American Academy of Dramatic Arts and later American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Melissa performed in regional theater productions and independent films before becoming a Neutrogena spokesmodel, gaining national recognition as a model. She landed roles on network television and in films like ABC Family's Greek and Twentieth Century Fox's Water for Elephants. In 2011, she earned her first lead role in Barely Legal, an unexpected success that brought international attention to Melissa.
