Karen Black was born Karen Blanche Ziegler on July 1, 1939, in suburban Chicago. She studied theater at Northwestern University before moving to New York City and performing on Broadway. Black began her film career with roles in 'You're a Big Boy Now' (1966) and 'Easy Rider' (1969). She gained widespread recognition for her role as a beautician in 'Five Easy Pieces' (1970), which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. Throughout the 1970s, she appeared in notable films such as 'Airport 1975', 'The Great Gatsby', 'Nashville', and Alfred Hitchcock's final film, 'Family Plot'. Black continued acting until her death from cancer on August 8, 2013.
