Irina Potapenko (*1986) was born on the Crimean peninsula, Soviet Union (now Ukraine), and moved to Berlin with her mother at age eight. She began acting at twelve, performing in Russian chamber theaters and later at Volksbühne Berlin under Frank Castorf's direction. She gained recognition for her role in 'Revanche' (2008), which was Oscar-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Potapenko won the Actor Award at the Max Ophüls Prize festival in 2009 and was nominated for Best German Actress at the Jupiter Awards in 2012.
