Harriet Mary Walter, born on September 24, 1950 in London, England, is a distinguished British actress with an extensive career spanning over four decades. She began her acting journey in 1974 and made her Broadway debut in 1983. Walter has received numerous accolades including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Revival for her role in Twelfth Night (1987-88). Her notable stage works include Macbeth (1999) and Antony and Cleopatra (2006), both with the Royal Shakespeare Company. She also won the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Elizabeth I in Mary Stuart (2005). On screen, she has appeared in films like Sense and Sensibility (1995), Atonement (2007), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and most recently, Ridley Scott's The Last Duel (2021). Walter is also known for her roles on television, such as Natalie Chandler in Law & Order: UK (2009-14) and Clementine Churchill in The Crown (2016). She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2011 for her services to drama.
