Eva Renzi, born to a French mother and Danish father in post-war Germany, had a tumultuous childhood. Her parents divorced when she was three, leading to her being placed in an orphanage run by nuns. At 14, she returned to live with her abusive father, who physically assaulted her regularly. Eva attempted suicide twice before leaving home at 17 to pursue acting. She supported herself as a model, phone operator, and waitress before making her stage debut in 1961. In 1964, renowned director Erwin Piscator hired her for the role of 'Electra' at Freie Volksbühne Berlin.
