Emily Coutts was born and raised in Canada, specifically living in Toronto while attending York University where she earned her BFA in acting. She made her acting debut in 2011 with The Bright Side of the Moon. Her notable works include Crimson Peak (2015) and various short films such as Bullet-Headed, Satisfaction, As I Like Her, Cherry, Can't Close a Painted Eye, 3-Way (Not Calling), and Come Back. She also served as a producer for Barn Wedding in 2015. Coutts is best known for her role as Helmsman Keyla Detmer on Star Trek Discovery.
