Born Yau Suk-Ching on May 16, 1968, Chingmy Yau began her career in entertainment through beauty pageants. She gained prominence after winning 'Miss Photogenic' at the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1989, leading to film offers. Initially playing wholesome roles, she later starred in Category III films, known for high doses of sex and violence, under director Wong Jing's mentorship, although rumors suggest he controlled her on-screen nudity. Despite this, she delivered notable performances in 'Naked Killer' (1992), 'City Hunter' (1992), and 'God of Gamblers Returns' (1994). Yau faced criticism and harassment from Hong Kong's tabloid press regarding her alleged affairs and career advancement. After announcing her split with Wong Jing in 1997, she continued acting at a slower pace. She married a fashion designer, potentially retiring from acting.
