Charlotte Valandrey (1968-2022) was a French actress and author who rose to prominence at age 16 with her César-nominated role in 'Red Kiss' (1985). Born Anne-Charlotte Pascal in Brittany, she adopted her professional name from the coastal town where she grew up. In 1986, Valandrey was diagnosed with HIV at age 17. She married Arthur Lecaisne in 1999 and they had a daughter, Tara. In 2003, Valandrey received a heart transplant after heart attacks caused by her HIV treatment. Her autobiography 'L'Amour dans le sang' (2005) sold over 280,000 copies and was adapted into a TV movie in 2008. She advocated for organ donation until her death on July 13, 2022, awaiting a second heart transplant.
