Mary Queen of Scots, born in France, returned to Scotland as a young widow after her husband's death. She married twice more, first to Lord Darnley and later to Earl of Bothwell. After Bothwell was implicated in Darnley's murder, Mary was abandoned by her nobles and people, leading her to seek help from Queen Elizabeth I of England. Imprisoned for 19 years, she eventually met her execution at the hands of Elizabeth.
