Rote Meile is a German television drama series that focuses on the lives of strippers, prostitutes, and their pimps in the district of St. Pauli in Hamburg. The first season premiered on October 1, 1999, consisting of 26 episodes aired on Sat.1 at Monday nights at 9:15 pm. The series was created as a rival to RTL drama Hinter Gittern - Der Frauenknast which aired during the same time slot. Due to its popularity, the network ordered a second season in spring 2000, with episodes airing on Thursday nights starting December 14, 2000. Unfortunately, the show was canceled in early 2001, broadcasting its last episode on March 8, 2001.
