Marion Cotillard, born September 30, 1975 in Paris, France, is an award-winning actress known for her roles in independent films and blockbusters. She began her career in French cinema, earning a César Award nomination for Most Promising Actress for 'Taxi' (1998). Cotillard made her English-language debut in the TV series 'Highlander' (1993) and gained international recognition for her portrayal of Édith Piaf in 'La Vie en Rose' (2007), winning an Academy Award for Best Actress. Set in the winter of 1797-98, 'La guerre dans le Haut Pays' begins with Napoleon's troops occupying the Pays de Vaud and preparing for an offensive against Berne. On the other side of the snow-blocked mountains, resistance starts to organize against the revolutionary ideas of Enlightenment. David and Julie, two young lovers, find themselves caught in the middle of this conflict. Their relationship is tested as their families and friends take opposing sides, with parents, friendships, and societal norms being torn apart by the warring ideologies.
