Moennig III, is an American actress of German, Scottish, and Irish ancestry. She moved to New York City at the age of 18 to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Moennig gained widespread recognition for her role as Shane McCutcheon on 'The L Word' and has played several lesbian roles in films like 'Everybody's Fine' and 'Art School Confidential'. She also auditioned for the part of Brandon Teena in 'Boys Don't Cry' and portrayed a transgender character in an episode of 'Law & Order'. Moennig has actively supported LGBTQ+ causes, participating in the documentary 'My Address: A Look At Gay Youth Homelessness in New York' with the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
