A college student named Jill Robinson returns home to her peaceful rural town after receiving a cryptic letter about her parents being missing and their house vandalized. She discovers that her parents are nowhere to be found, and the townsfolk seem hostile towards them due to her father's job as a bank supervisor who had foreclosed on several local farms. Jill meets Marvelous Mervo, a peculiar man dressed in a clown suit with a permanent grin, who seems happy to see her but is otherwise unsettling.
