Carol Drinkwater, born Carol Albertine Drinkwater on April 22, 1948, is an Anglo-Irish actress, author, and filmmaker. Born to Irish nurse Phyllis McCormack and bandleader Peter Regan (born Peter Albert Drinkwater), she began her acting career as a member of the National Theatre Company under Laurence Olivier's leadership. Drinkwater gained prominence for portraying Helen Herriot in 'All Creatures Great and Small,' earning the Variety Club Television Personality of the Year award in 1985. She has acted in numerous films and television series, including Stanley Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange' (1971). Among her notable roles are Anne in 'Father' (1990), for which she won a Critics' Circle Best Screen Actress award, and Marguerite in 'The Lost Girl,' inspired by her own experience of sexual assault during an audition with Elia Kazan. Drinkwater has written several children's books and memoirs about her olive farm in Provence, and is married to French TV producer Michel Noll.

In a dystopian future Britain, teenage delinquent Alexander DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) leads his gang of 'droogs' in committing violent crimes and home invasions, while indulging in Beethoven's music. After being caught and convicted for rape and murder, Alex is offered a choice by the government: undergo an experimental behavioral modification treatment called the Ludovico Technique, or spend the rest of his life in prison. The treatment, designed to curb his violent tendencies by associating violence with nausea, leaves him unable to harm others but also robs him of his free will and love for Beethoven's music. Upon release, Alex finds himself ostracized by society and hunted by those he wronged while rehabilitated, leading to a series of events that challenge his newfound pacifism.
