French actress and filmmaker Mélanie Laurent was born on February 21, 1983, in Paris to a Jewish family. Introduced to acting by Gérard Depardieu at age sixteen, she made her debut in 'The Bridge' (1999). Her breakthrough role came in 'Don't Worry, I'm Fine' (2006), earning her the César Award for Most Promising Actress and Prix Romy Schneider. Laurent gained international recognition with Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' (2009) as Shosanna Dreyfus. She has since worked in various independent films like 'Paris' (2008), 'Enemy' (2013), and Hollywood productions such as 'Now You See Me' (2013).
