Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, daughter of French actor Philippe Leroy-Beaulieu, was born and raised in Italy before moving to Paris at 16 to study drama against her father's wishes. She made her film debut in 'Surprise Party' (1983) and gained prominence for her role in 'Trois hommes et un couffin' (1985), earning a César Award nomination for Most Promising Actress. Leroy-Beaulieu went on to appear in various films, including 'Les Possédés' (1988), 'Les Deux Fragonard', and 'La Révolution Française'. She starred in the title role of 'Natalia', which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988. In the United States, she became known for her role in the mini-series 'Mistral's Daughter' (1984).

In 17th century France, a penniless prince invites King Louis XIV to three days of festivities at his chateau in Chantilly to secure a commission as a general. The prince tasks Vatel, his steward and a man of honor with organizing these extravagances.
