She received critical acclaim for her roles, including a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'Fat City' (1972) and a Saturn Award for her performance in 'Bad' (1977). Tyrrell was characterized by the New York Times as having a 'whiskey-voiced' persona. She passed away on June 16, 2012.
