Julianne Moore, born Julie Anne Smith on December 3, 1960, is an American actress known for her emotionally troubled women roles in independent films and leading lady parts in blockbusters. After studying theater at Boston University, she began her career with TV roles, notably earning a Daytime Emmy Award for 'As the World Turns' (1985-1988). Moore gained critical acclaim for performances in films like 'Short Cuts' (1993), 'Safe' (1995), and received Academy Award nominations for 'Boogie Nights' (1997), 'The End of the Affair' (1999), among others. She won an Oscar for 'Still Alice' (2014). Moore is married to director Bart Freundlich, with whom she has two children.

The story begins with the death of an elderly millionaire, who leaves his entire fortune worth $8 million to Rebecca Carlson, a woman with whom he had been having an affair.
