Bad Timing follows Alex Linden (Art Garfunkel), an American psychiatrist living in Vienna. He meets Milena Flaherty (Teresa Russell), a young American woman already married but leading a carefree lifestyle, through a mutual friend. Despite their age difference, they embark on a passionate affair that becomes increasingly intense and destructive. Their relationship is marked by intense sex, heavy drinking, and Milena's numerous affairs, much to Alex's jealousy. One night, Milena overdoses on pills, and Alex is taken into custody by Inspector Netusil (Harvey Keitel), who suspects foul play. As Milena fights for her life in the hospital, the inspector interrogates Alex, piecing together their tumultuous relationship through flashbacks.
