Jane Chase, a young graduate student, becomes the assistant to an eccentric zoology professor in his remote Scottish home. The professor shares his residence with two chimpanzees and Link, an elderly orangutan butler who serves as the housekeeper. However, tension arises when one of the chimps dies mysteriously. Soon after, the professor vanishes without a trace. Suddenly, Link becomes aggressive towards Jane, preventing her from leaving the house or contacting anyone for help. When Jane attempts to punish Link by locking him out, he responds with increased violence.
Directed by Richard Franklin in 1986, 'Link' is a horror-thriller that combines elements of the thriller and animal attack genres. The film follows Jane Chase, an assistant to an animal researcher who lives in isolation with intelligent chimpanzees and Link, an orangutan butler. Set in Scotland, the movie explores themes of isolation, dependency, and the potential dangers of human-like intelligence when applied to animals. While not heavily discussed, 'Link' is considered a cult classic within horror circles due to its unique premise and unsettling atmosphere.
