Story

During a widespread blackout, Matthew and Annie struggle to cope with their sick baby and the increasing lawlessness around them. When Matthew's friend Joe arrives, tensions rise as the men debate how to protect themselves and their families. They purchase a shotgun but Annie disposes of it in the pool. After hearing an intruder one night, they chase him out into the street where he is shot by a neighbor. Fearing for their safety, they decide to drive to Annie's parents' house 500 miles away. Along the way, they encounter more danger when they find a driver dead in an abandoned car while attempting to siphon gas.

Summary

Trigger Effect (1996), directed by David Koepp, is a thriller that explores how fragile societal norms can be when faced with sudden adversity such as a prolonged power outage. The film follows Matthew and Annie, suburbanites whose lives are disrupted by the blackout, causing them to question what actions are necessary for survival in an increasingly predatory environment.
