Ted was a high school geek who never got to go to prom with his date Mary due to an unfortunate accident. Thirteen years later, Ted still pines for Mary and hires a private investigator, Pat Healy, to track her down. However, Pat falls for Mary himself and feeds Ted false information to keep him away from her. Eventually, Ted finds out the truth and confronts Pat, leading to a series of comedic events as he attempts to win Mary's heart.
Directed by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly, 'There's Something About Mary' (1998) is a screwball romantic comedy that follows Ted, a man still hung up on his unrequited high school crush, Mary. The film explores themes of love, obsession, and the lengths people go to for it. Despite its comedic tone, the movie also touches upon taboo subjects like intellectual disability, as portrayed through one of Mary's family members.
