Baltimore industrialist Wendell Armbruster and London shop girl Pamela Piggott meet in Ischia, Italy after their parents die in a car accident while on holiday together. Wendell, straitlaced and concerned about scandal, wants to handle the bodies discreetly and return home. Pamela, free-spirited and captivated by the romantic setting, insists they stay longer. Complications arise when locals try to blackmail them over their parents' affair. As they navigate these issues together, Wendell and Pamela find themselves drawn to each other, eventually continuing their parents' summertime romance into the next generation.
