Carolina Rambaldi's will stipulates that her property will go to the child who has gotten married and had a child within the past year and a half. Her children—Marcello, Lucrezia, and Cesare—react differently to this news. Marcello, the lazy one, marries Marina, a dangerous criminal. Despite getting pregnant immediately, Marina suffers a miscarriage. She discovers a clinic in Germany specializing in embryo transplants for sterile women. To avoid suspicion, she convinces her twin sister Angela to take her place while she travels to Germany for the operation. Cesare, however, finds out about their plan and causes an explosion on Marina's flight. Angela then goes ahead with the transplant scheduled for Marina.
