Melanie Richards Griffith, born on August 9, 1957 in New York City to actress Tippi Hedren and advertising executive Peter Griffith, began her acting career at age 17 with Night Moves. She gained prominence for her role in Body Double (1984), earning a National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her breakthrough came with Working Girl (1988), which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. Throughout the '90s, she had varied roles including Buffalo Girls (1995) and RKO 281 (1999), both earning Golden Globe nominations, and Shining Through (1992), for which she received a Golden Raspberry Award. Forever Lulu follows Lulu McAfee, a resident of a San Francisco home for mentally-ill adults, who escapes to Los Angeles in June 1999 to reunite with her former lover, Ben Clifton. Now unhappily married to a psychiatrist named Claire and writing for television, Ben is initially reluctant to rekindle their relationship. However, when Lulu reveals that she gave birth to their son after becoming ill and their affair ended, Ben agrees to drive her to Wisconsin to meet the boy on his sixteenth birthday. During their journey, Lulu attempts to reignite their romance and inspire Ben's lost idealism. Meanwhile, Claire flies to Madison to witness the potential implosion of her marriage. The truth about Lulu's son remains uncertain, setting the stage for emotional confrontations along the way.
