Leona Cavalli, born Alleyona Canedo da Silva on November 6, 1969 in Rosário do Sul, Brazil, is a renowned actress and theater director. She began her professional theater career at age 16 in 'Waltz No. 6'. After studying theater at PUC in São Paulo, she performed in classical plays like 'Farsa by Inês Pereira' and 'Auto da Barca do Inferno'. Cavalli gained critical acclaim for her role as Dalva in the film 'Um Céu de Estrelas' (1996), winning several awards. She won the Shell Award for Best Actress for her role in 'Toda Nudez Ser Castigada' in 2000, and sold the Prêmio Qualidade Brasil for Best Actress in a Drama Play for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' in 2002. Cavalli made her television debut in 'Os Normais' (2002) and acted in 'Amarelo Manga', directed by Cláudio Assis, earning critical acclaim and winning the Guarani Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In the impoverished neighborhood of Recife, various eccentric characters intersect within a seedy bar and a rundown hotel. Dunga, a gay man working at the hotel, harbors an unrequited crush on Wellington, a married butcher with a religious wife named Kika and a mistress, Dayse. Meanwhile, Isaac, a necrophiliac suffering from terminal illness, owns a yellow Mercedes Benz and is obsessed with Lígia, the owner of Bar Avenida.
