Leigh Ann Watson, salutatorian at her high school, desperately needs to become valedictorian to secure a scholarship to Harvard. Her weakest subject is history, taught by the tyrannical Mrs. Tingle who has it out for Leigh Ann. In an attempt to gain extra credit and impress Mrs. Tingle, Leigh Ann enlists the help of her friends, Jo Lynn (Jessica Lange) and Luke (Liam Aiken). However, their scheme goes awry, leading to a chaotic chain of events involving mind-games set by Mrs. Tingle, shattered friendships, and a dramatic confrontation on graduation day.
