After three of his accomplices drown during a botched gas station robbery, a young thief survives but decides to keep a low profile instead of turning himself in to the police. He meets Bruno Granz, an older man who has been planning a major heist and sees potential in the young criminal's enterprising nature. Despite initial reluctance, the young thief agrees to help Bruno with the robbery, bringing his girlfriend along. Together, they prepare for the risky scheme while trying to evade suspicion from both the law enforcement agencies and their own past mistakes.
Bankomatt (1989) is a Swiss-Italian thriller-drama directed by Villi Hermann and co-written with Giovanni Pascutto. Set in an unnamed European city, the film follows the tense narrative of a desperate young thief who finds himself recruited into a larger heist after his original robbery goes awry. The story explores themes of trust, betrayal, and the consequences of criminal actions. Although not widely recognized internationally, Bankomatt is considered a significant work in Swiss cinema for its gritty realism and compelling portrayal of criminal underworld dynamics.
