The film 'Gerda' follows the life of Gerda Wegener, a renowned landscape painter in early 20th century Denmark. The story begins with Gerda's marriage to Einar Wegener, also an artist but struggling to make a name for himself. When Gerda is commissioned to paint the portrait of a ballet dancer, she asks Einar to model for her as she doesn't have a male model readily available. Einar agrees and while doing so, he discovers a unique sense of ease and comfort in wearing women's clothing. This discovery leads him to explore his feminine side more openly, eventually taking on the persona of Lili Elbe, a woman, both professionally and socially. Gerda supports Einar/Lili throughout this transformation, despite facing societal backlash and personal struggles with her own jealousy and confusion about their changing relationship.
