Cécile and Samira struggle to pay their rent in Paris. At an art gallery reception they attend uninvited, Cécile steals wallets while Samira overeats. When Michel Farnèse notices his wallet missing, the girls are ejected. Samira is later arrested during a failed robbery attempt at a Chinese jeweller. Cécile seeks out Michel, a wealthy corporate lawyer and Viviane's husband, to defend Samira using Michel's business card found in his wallet. Michel agrees due to their shared background, but Viviane grows suspicious of his intentions. Vincent, Cécile's ex-boyfriend, provides an alibi for her during the trial, leading to her acquittal. He hopes to rekindle their relationship. After thanking Michel at his office, Cécile leaves behind her sweater. Michel takes it to her apartment.
En plein coeur (1998) is a French drama film directed by Pierre Jolivet, loosely based on Émile Zola's novel 'Pot-Bouille'. The story revolves around Cécile and Samira, two women from humble backgrounds navigating the complexities of wealth and social class in Paris. It explores themes of class struggle, love triangles, and morality through their interactions with Michel Farnèse, a successful corporate lawyer who falls for Cécile while defending her friend.
