Léonie Simaga, born in Marseille in 1978, is a French actress and director who was a member of the Comédie-Française from 2010 to 2015. Her parents met while studying in Rennes; her mother, from Brittany, was preparing to teach French, while her father, from Mali, was an agricultural engineer. Léonie's Breton grandfather, Jean-Baptiste Le Gall, died during World War II and was awarded the Legion of Honor. After obtaining her baccalaureate, Léonie studied at prestigious Parisian schools, attending hypokhâgne and khâgne before graduating from Sciences Po in 2002. She also holds a degree in history. She trained in theater at Asnières Studio-theater and the National Higher Conservatory of Dramatic Art (2002-2005). At Comédie-Française, she performed in various roles including Esther by Racine, Papa must eat by Marie NDiaye, Le Cid by Corneille, and Il campiello by Goldoni. She also directed productions such as Pour un oui ou pour un non by Nathalie Sarraute (2007) and Othello by William Shakespeare (2014).
