Petit à is a psychological drama about a lonely and troubled teenage girl named Clara (Vilhelmine Dybdahl), who lives with her mother in their family home after her father's passing. Clara finds comfort in her imaginary friend Petit, whom she uses to cope with her emotional turmoil and isolation. When her mother starts dating again, Clara feels threatened by the intrusion of this new man into their lives. She begins to act out more violently, pushing away both her mother and Petit. After a particularly disturbing incident at home, Clara is sent to live in a mental institution for a short period. Upon returning home, she must confront her actions and the reality of losing Petit if she wants to mend her relationship with her mother.
Petit à is a Danish drama directed by Cecilie McNair, who also wrote the script. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2018. It explores themes of grief, mental health, and adolescent angst through its protagonist Clara, who struggles to cope with her father's death and feels jealous of her mother's new relationship. The story is a poignant portrayal of a girl's descent into darkness as she tries to maintain her grip on an imaginary friend while navigating the complexities of her real-life relationships.
