Robinson Crusoe (Pierce Brosnan) flees Britain after accidentally killing his friend in a duel over the love of Mary (Lisa Eichhorn). Caught in a fierce storm at sea, his ship is wrecked, leaving him stranded on an uncharted island. Over four decades, he learns to survive by himself until he encounters Friday (Willie Jonah), a tribesman about to be sacrificed by his cannibalistic tribe. Crusoe saves Friday and takes him captive initially, but their relationship evolves from master-slave to one of mutual respect and friendship despite cultural and religious differences. When Crusoe discovers that Friday's tribe uses the island for human sacrifices, he defends them against further attacks.
