Suranne Jones, born Sarah Ann Jones on August 27, 1978 in Chadderton, Greater Manchester, England, is an English actress and producer known for her collaborations with screenwriter Sally Wainwright. She rose to prominence playing Karen McDonald on ITV's Coronation Street from 2000 to 2004. Jones has since starred in numerous television series including Scott & Bailey (2011–2016), Doctor Foster (2015–2017) for which she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress, and Gentleman Jack (2019–2022) where she served as executive producer. On stage, she has appeared in productions such as A Few Good Men (2005), Blithe Spirit (2009), and Frozen (2018). Jones was raised Catholic and attended Cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School. She was a member of the Oldham Theatre Workshop and completed a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts.
