Ben Archer, a weary enforcer for a criminal organization, decides to retire after growing tired of his violent lifestyle. His wife Cynthia, a social worker with the INS, brings home a young Chinese refugee girl named Mei Li, without knowing that she is the daughter of a notorious crime lord, Sun Quan. When Sun Quan learns about Mei Li's whereabouts, he sends his men to retrieve her, culminating in a brutal attack on the Archer household. Cynthia is murdered, and Ben's son Nicholas disappears along with Mei Li. Driven by grief and rage, Ben sets out on a relentless quest to save his son and avenge his wife's murder while also trying to protect Mei Li from her ruthless father.
