Amandla Stenberg, born October 23, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, began acting as a child. She gained recognition for playing Rue in 'The Hunger Games' (2012), followed by roles in 'Sleepy Hollow' (2013–2014) and 'Everything, Everything' (2017). Stenberg received critical acclaim for her performance as Starr Carter in 'The Hate U Give' (2018). She also starred in 'Bodies Bodies Bodies' (2022) and will appear in 'The Acolyte' (2024), part of the Star Wars series. Outside acting, Stenberg is a musician, performing as part of Honeywater and singing 'Let My Baby Stay' for 'Everything, Everything'. Known for her activism towards LGBT youth, she was included on Time's lists of most influential teens in 2015 and 2016.

In Nazi Germany of 1944, Leyna (Amandla Stenberg), a biracial teenager with a white German mother and a black father, navigates her life in constant fear due to her mixed heritage. She meets Lutz (George MacKay), the son of a high-ranking SS officer and member of the Hitler Youth, and they fall deeply in love. Their relationship puts both their lives at risk as interracial relationships are forbidden by the Nazi regime. Throughout their romance, Leyna witnesses the persecution of Jews and those deemed 'non-pure'.
