American Gods (2017) follows Shadow Moon, a man trying to lead a quiet life after his release from prison. His wife's sudden death in a car crash forces him to return home for her funeral. On the flight back, he meets the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday who knows more about Shadow than is possible. Wednesday warns Shadow that a bigger storm is coming and Shadow's life will never be the same. The series then unfolds as a battle between the old gods, brought to America by immigrants and enslaved people, and the new gods born of modern society's obsessions with media, celebrity, and technology.
