Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey), a fishing boat captain leading tours off Plymouth Island, has his peaceful life disrupted when his ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway) arrives with a desperate plea. She asks him to take her new husband, who is abusive and dangerous, out for a fishing trip so they can dispose of him at sea. Dill struggles with this moral dilemma, but ultimately agrees. As they set sail, Karen's husband becomes suspicious and violent, leading to a tense confrontation at sea. Meanwhile, Dill begins experiencing strange visions that blur the line between reality and illusion.
