Maggie Gyllenhaal, born November 16, 1977 in New York City, is an American actress and filmmaker from a family of filmmakers—daughter to Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs, and sister to Jake Gyllenhaal. She began her career as a teenager with roles in several of her father's films, notably 'Donnie Darko' (2001). Her breakthrough came with 'Secretary' (2002), an erotic romantic comedy-drama where she played Lee Holloway, earning critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination. She has since starred in various films like 'The Dark Knight' (2008) and 'The Lost Daughter' (2021), for which she won the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award.
