Jack McKee (Jeff Bridges) and Cecil Colson (Sam Waterston), two bumbling drifters with a history of cattle rustling in Montana, target wealthy ranch-owner John Brown's herd. Jack, who left his affluent family due to resentment, and Cecil, seeking independence from his mixed-race heritage and gruff cowboy father, evade capture by staying one step ahead of their pursuers—first Brown's inept ranch hands Burt and Curt, then grizzled former rustler Henry Beige. As their luck seems endless, they remain unaware that their freedom could be short-lived.
'Rancho Deluxe' (1975) is a comedic Western directed by Frank Perry from Thomas McGuane's novel of the same name. The film explores themes of identity, rebellion against societal expectations, and the American Dream through its protagonists—two rustlers navigating Montana's rugged frontier. With its distinctive blend of humor, romance, and classic Western tropes, 'Rancho Deluxe' offers a unique take on the genre.
