In medieval France, a powerful warlock is beheaded and his wife tortured to death by an angry mob. Centuries later in present-day Spain, a group of isolated individuals discover the warlock's severed head buried on their property during some archaeological digging. Unbeknownst to them, the head begins to possess people one by one, using them to commit ritualistic sacrifices and search for the rest of his body parts hidden around the estate. As more bodies pile up, the survivors must find a way to stop the warlock's curse before they all fall victim to his evil powers.
El espanto surge de la tumba (1973) is a Spanish horror film directed by Carlos Aured and written by cult icon Paul Naschy. Set in both medieval France and present-day Spain, the movie revolves around an ancient warlock's curse that resurrects his head centuries later to possess people and claim their bodies for its nefarious purposes. This film is notable for its blend of historical horror elements and early zombie-like possessions, showcasing Naschy's unique storytelling style in the Spanish exploitation cinema scene.
