Junie Moon, disfigured by burns, her face obscured behind a veil, leaves a hospital with her friends: Warren, a paraplegic homosexual, and Arthur, an introvert epileptic. They set up housekeeping together in a cottage, supporting each other through their respective medical issues. Junie yearns for independence and love, while Warren and Arthur grapple with their own challenges. Throughout the film, they face prejudices from society, deal with practical issues like finding jobs and managing finances, and find moments of joy and love amidst their struggles.
Directed by Otto Preminger in 1970, 'Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon' is a comedic drama that explores the lives of three neurotic characters overcoming physical and societal challenges. The film is notable for its candid portrayal of homosexuality at a time when it was still taboo, and its exploration of disability and disfigurement. It's a story about friendship, love, and independence, told with humor and honesty.
