Elena Anaya, born July 17, 1975 in Palencia, Spain, began her acting career in 1995. She gained international recognition for her role in 'Lucía y el sexo' (2001) and was praised for her performance in Pedro Almodóvar's 'Hable con ella' (2002). Anaya appeared as a vampire in the Hollywood film 'Van Helsing' (2004), playing Dracula's bride Aleera. She also starred in the 2006 Spanish historical drama 'Alatriste', portraying María de Castro, the love interest of the titular character played by Viggo Mortensen. In 2004, she was selected as one of European films' Shooting Stars by European Film Promotion.

In 2009, former ETA terrorist Santi is released from prison after 22 years and travels to Cabo de Gata, Almería to meet his friend Emilio, a former cellmate who is now ill in hospital. While visiting Emilio, Santi accidentally meets Marina, a doctor who faints upon seeing him. Years prior, Santi had killed Marina's father when she was eight years old, an event that has haunted her ever since. Obsessed with Santi being her father's killer, Marina intentionally shoots him three times during a confrontation but then returns to heal his wounds using her medical knowledge. Meanwhile, Marina's husband grows suspicious of her strange behavior. After recovering from his injuries, Santi and Marina begin a complex relationship as they attempt to overcome their shared painful past.
