Her breakthrough role came in HBO's mockumentary sitcom 'The Comeback' (2005), followed by notable performances in movies such as 'The Heartbreak Kid' (2007), 'Watchmen' (2009), and '27 Dresses' (2008). She also starred in television series like 'Childrens Hospital' (2010-2016) and 'Trophy Wife' (2013-2014). Akerman was briefly the lead vocalist for alternative rock band The Petalstones before focusing solely on acting. She has been married twice; first to drummer Roberto Zincone from 2007 to 2014, with whom she has a son, and currently to English actor Jack Donnelly since 2018.
