Pupendo is a bittersweet comedy-drama set just prior to 1984 in Czechoslovakia during the era of 'practical socialism'. Bedrich Mára (Bolek Polívka), a respected art teacher at Prague's Academy of Art, has been politically ostracized. He's banned from exhibiting his work and pushed aside from lucrative commissions, forcing him and his ceramicist wife to live in a small apartment with their two sons on the outskirts of Prague. In contrast, Bedrich's former classmate Míla Brecka (Jaroslav Dusek), now a school principal, has embraced communism. With his ambitious wife Vilma (Vilma Cibulková), Míla believes they're making personal sacrifices to improve society. As the story unfolds, tensions rise between these two families, highlighting the stark differences in their beliefs and coping mechanisms during this challenging time.
