João, a photographer seeking to revitalize his career, travels through Rio Grande do Sul's interior cities in search of potential model candidates. Among them is Maria, an exceptionally beautiful young girl who fails to appear for her second round of tests. João locates Maria's mother Anita, who reveals that Maria's father Pedro opposes his daughter pursuing a modeling career. Despite this, João waits for Maria's return and stays at their house. During his wait, he becomes romantically involved with Anita. When Maria returns home with Pedro, a man thirty years older than Anita and nearly blind, João conducts another test session with Maria.
