Set during the early years of King Edward I's reign in Wales, 'Bastard Executioner' follows Wilkin Brattle, a skilled but peaceful executioner from the king's army who returns home after being scarred by war. Upon his return, he discovers that his village has been ravaged by poverty and crime due to the cruelty and corruption of Lord Marlow's taxation regime. When Wilkin refuses to resume his role as an executioner, he becomes the target of Marlow's wrath. In response, Wilkin seeks vengeance alongside a group of unlikely allies, including a former executioner named Annora, who believes in using supernatural powers to fight injustice.
